The NCL Procedures of Limited Clinical Effectiveness (PoLCE) is a revised policy (previously known as Low Priority Treatments). The new POLCE policy defines clearly the criteria and thresholds for access to POLCE Procedures. Since the policy was introduced last year there have been a number of improvements to the policy and process with significant work done between GP leads, clinical leads, NHS North Central London, Acute Providers, secondary care clinicians and Referral Management staff.
The policy focuses on those procedures which have evidence for limited/selective clinical effectiveness and that are appropriate only for a Patient to undergo if a certain set of medical criteria are met.
The policy aims to ensure that patients are provided with the best in clinical care and does not aim to stop a patient from having a procedure of limited clinical effectiveness if they meet the clinical criteria set out in this policy.
