UCLH awarded major musculoskeletal contract

Camden CCG has awarded University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) the contract to provide a new Camden Integrated Musculoskeletal (MSK) Service, following a robust and comprehensive procurement process.

The integrated MSK service has been designed by Camden residents, local GPs and specialist clinicians to deliver better results and experiences for people with conditions related to their joints, muscles or bones.

Camden MSK patients helped to design the new service through workshops, a survey and representation on a clinical working group. Six Camden patients joined the expert panel which evaluated potential providers and had direct input into the appointment decision.

Hampstead Group Practice GP and Camden CCG MSK clinical lead, Dr Tom Aslan said: “The new Camden Integrated MSK Service will transform care for Camden MSK patients.

“Through improved integration between care providers, patients will experience shorter waiting times, have a single point of contact and find it easy to move between different services and providers. They won’t need to repeat procedures unnecessarily and will be provided with high quality, personalised information. Particular focus will be placed on delivering improved quality of life and an excellent service experience.

“UCLH bring strong knowledge of the local health system and the needs of Camden patients, and we look forward to working with them as the lead provider to put these improvements into action.”

UCLH medical director Charles House said: “UCLH is very pleased to have been awarded this contract. We will build on existing MSK services to improve the patient experience and clinical outcomes. We know that clinicians are eager to work across organisational boundaries for the benefit of patients and this new contract will break down barriers to joint working.”

The Camden Integrated MSK Service will launch in spring 2017.
