Individual Funding Requests
The NHS looks to provide care for all patients but there are some treatments that are not normally available on the NHS. For these treatments, a policy has been outlined which is applied on a case by case basis.
Can I get this treatment on the NHS?
This section explains how NHS Camden Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) makes decisions about providing treatments that are not normally available through the National Health Service (NHS) for individual patients.
Like any other organisation, the NHS has limited resources and we have a duty to manage them carefully.
This means we have to:
- look at the clinical reasons for exceptionality in individual cases;
- look at evidence for the safety and effectiveness of any treatment; and
- ensure that the services we pay for will give patients the greatest health gains from the resources we have.
We have a policy that sets out the principles behind our decision making for treatment requests that are not normally available for individual patients. It also explains the system we have for processing each request. This policy is called the Individual Funding Request (IFR) policy. It can be viewed on the right hand side of this page.
